Dr. Sung Hun Park (Sean Park) recently visited the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida where world-renowned inflatable penile implant expert Dr. Rafael Carrion serves as a professor and chairman at the department of urology. The University of South Florida houses Tampa General Hospital and the Morsani College of Medicine, which consistently ranks as one of the top medical schools in the nation
Dr. Rafael Carrion is the son of Dr. Hernan Carrion, who first invented the malleable penile implant in the early 70s. Continuing his father’s legacy, Dr. Carrion has devoted his career to penile implant surgery. Today, nearly 60% of his surgical cases involve complex revisions earning him a reputation as one of the world’s foremost experts
Dr. Park and Dr. Carrion first met in 2014 at the ISSM (International Society for Sexual Medicine) World Congress in São Paulo, Brazil. Since then, they have maintained a close professional relationship through regular annual meetings at major international conferences, such as the SMSNA (Sexual Medicine Society of North America) and the AUA (American Urological Association), etc. Their collaboration deepened when Dr. Carrion’s former Chief Resident Dr. Timothy Juwono and former fellow Dr. Hannah Guan, visited Dr. Park to observe his inflatable penile implant surgeries
During this visit at USF, Dr. Park observed Dr. Carrion’s surgical techniques and clinical management practices for inflatable penile prosthesis. From these efforts, Dr. Park is keeping up-to-date with the most advanced, evidence-based practices in the field of prosthetic urology
